Nirvana Nevermind

This was the first authorised documentary to be made following the death of Kurt Cobain. When we began making the film we decided not to mention Kurt Cobain’s suicide, or the events surrounding his death. As is the case with all the Classic Albums films the focus was going to be on the music. What became evident while shooting the interviews with the band members was that Kurt had always harboured a desire to be ‘rock star’ and with the success of Nevermind he got his wish. In this clip record producer Butch Vig-with the help of the original multi track recordings-demonstrates how the group recorded Smells Like Teen Spirit, the song that would help propel the album to the number one spot on the American Billboard Charts.
